Written by: Paulus Darma Wicaksono (Student of Communication Department)

After staying in Sta. Mercedez for Community Exposure Program (CEP), our remaining schedule is to compile the reports. Meanwhile the chair of Social Sciences and Departement, Josephine R. Lejoz is adjusting our activity for attending some classes in College of Liberal Arts and Communications (CLAC). Before receiving the schedule, subjects of interest should be sent. There are four concentrations that represented our fields major, such kind Public Relations, Marketing Communications, Media Studies, and Journalism.
Classes will be started on November 30th to December 5th. First session is divided into three classes, two of us attended different classes. The class taken is talking about Introduction to Public Relations, Broadcasting Journalism, Advertising, and Sociological Theory. Sometime we are gathered at the same courses. The earlier class in CLAC DLSUD is started at 8.00 am and the class will be over at 7.00 pm to 8.00 pm.
Students are really active and the professor is very responsive. Interactive relations occured between the professor and students nor at the class but outsided the class room. One of Lassalian professor, Marina Gamo, told us that she approaching students as a friend, not as the facilitator. It is important because they can be open personality, so if any something difficult that teasing them, they’ll ask without the doubt. The average class that we took during the week is two to three classes a day. The duration of the class that we attended is three hours.
We surprised when entering some class because sometimes we found a class with eight to fifteen students only. Besides the class is the laboratory itself, so the student doesn’t have to move to another room to do pratical things. For example, when one of us attended the broadcasting class which is talking about radio and the history in the Philippines. There are two tools for this course it is a radio and screen. Before going to main theory of radio, the professor explained about how to distinguish between AM and FM. Impressing moment could have a chance to learn about these transitory media with direct practical. All of the students directly how it works, the AM and FM. And then the professor showed the video of the development of radio history in the Philippines.
In other class, for example, advertising class, making product brands will be our experiment in the class. The Professor instructed the students to plant an idea that’s can be a brand in the public. Consideration the selling cost is the most important, then the segmentation. We are involved and divided into small groups and discussions about it. It’s really interesting could share the ideas with CLAC students. The result of the discussions should be explained to the others.
Finally, week three is so refreshed us. During week three until going to the next week, we compile our report from the village for final presentation at research week that will be held on December 12, 2015. That’ll be our last week.
